The Brief
Derby’s newly opened Museum of Making celebrates the areas rich history of innovation, telling Derby’s 300-year history of making with the aim to inspire new creativity.
The museum, housed in a former silk mill, features a range of exhibits, designed and made by the people and industries of Derby.
The Museum wanted to feature Toyota, the leading company for hybrid vehicle development, as an exhibit. Since 1992, Toyota have been driving cars off the production line at their vehicle manufacturing plant in Burnaston in Derbyshire. With the well-known history which Toyota have in Derby, it would only be right for them to feature in the Museum of Making.
Toyota approached us to help them make their idea a reality. The brief was to suspend one of their cars, a Corolla, above the museum entrance. The concept behind the exhibit was to display the car parts to look like an exploded engineering drawing, creating a visually stunning welcome to the museum.
The Exhibit
The hybrid open day hosted a live audience of over 1,000 people throughout the day as well as those who watched the open day virtually.
The event featured two celebrity hosts, presenter and broadcaster Radzi Chinyanganya, and Bassit Siddiqui from Gogglebox. Both hosts are alumni of the University of Derby, allowing them to create an insightful and engaging show for the audience.
The event consisted of a main stage with a live audience which was also streamed to a virtual audience. We built a TV studio, where the presenters could interview current students and staff at the university.
The live audience could watch these interviews on the large LED screen on the main stage. The hybrid event featured pre-recorded content which was mixed seamlessly with the live elements.
Overall, the hybrid university open day was a fantastic event, engaging and inspiring both the live and the virtual audience, with over 800 playbacks on the livestream.
