We recently completed one of our favourite commissions of the year so far – to light up the historic Guildhall building in London for a prestigious awards ceremony, which hosted 300 guests.
We were charged with the task of producing a stunning stage set and backdrop for the event, including the creation of several scenic elements which would enhance the venue’s beautiful architecture and surroundings.
We provided full technical production, including a high-quality L-Acoustics PA system, perfectly balanced to work within the challenging acoustic conditions of a venue steeped in history. We also used our expertise to create high definition graphics and power a live video feed to a giant screen above the stage.
In addition to the main awards space, we illuminated the exterior of the building’s entranceway and also created an amazing party area in the crypt of the building, comprising of a chill out area with a bar and seating and an adjoining disco area with more dynamic lighting, LED dancefloor and PA system to get people on their feet and dancing the night away.
The pièce de résistance, however, was the incredible lighting design and installation in the main event space with a mix of uplighting, LED colour washes and our latest Clay Paky Mythos moving head fixtures to project colour breakups, enhancing the magnificent surroundings.
Commenting on the event, Adam Dewhurst, production director of On, said:
“We thrive on working in challenging buildings like the Guildhall and were delighted when one of our most long-standing clients invited us to work with them on this exciting project.
“When working in historic buildings it is essential that the set and lighting complements the building’s unique features and shows them off to their best advantage. The client was delighted with the finished result, which was absolutely stunning.”
The Guildhall has occupied a prominent position in the City of London since the 12th century. These days the medieval Grade I listed landmark provides a spectacular backdrop for a variety of banquets and corporate events.
