We’ve recently completed one of our most high profile events of the year so far – the live event production and set-build for the grand finale of this year’s Virgin Media Business VOOM 2016 competition.
Following the success of last year’s event, On Event Production Co. were commissioned by agency Really Quite Brilliant to handle full production for the finals, which took place at the ITV Studios in London.
Our brief was to deliver an exciting new concept incorporating an innovative environment where this year’s finalists could pitch their ideas to a judging panel, comprising of Sir Richard Branson and American model and television personality Tyra Banks, along with Sarah Blakely, founder of the Spanx brand, Youtube Vlogger Marcus Butler and Peter Kelly, managing director of Virgin Media Business.
We created a show-stopping set that put the nine finalists on the edge of a precipice, both with the future of their businesses and their pitch itself.
This included the construction of a giant ramp, from the top of which the finalists were required to deliver their pitch – with a sheer drop between themselves and the judges who were positioned above. Dramatic lighting effects added to the theatre of the show with integrated high definition projection onto fabric panels to showcase the finalists showreels.
Commenting on the production for the grand finale, Guy Eaton, managing director of On, said:
“Working with Really Quite Brilliant and Virgin Media Business on the production of this year’s VOOM 2016 grand final has been a fantastic experience for everyone at On.
“The set for this year’s event was very different to the one we created last year, but still needed to retain the strong values associated with the Virgin brand and be in keeping with the exciting, competitive nature of the grand finals – I’m pleased to say it worked perfectly.
“The entire set was constructed at our in-house fabrication facility and delivered by our brilliant production management team, which has overseen the entire process, from project management and design, to manufacture and installation,” added Guy.
Sara Babu from Virgin Media Business, added:
“I can’t thank you enough for the amazing hard work and dedication you all put into the project over the last few months – we really appreciate it.
“Everyone has commented on the epicness of the set and the work that went into everything behind the scenes”
The nine finalists in three categories had just 120 seconds each to secure their share of a £1 million prize fund. The overall winners of this year’s VOOM 2016 competition were Innovative Plastic Road surface manufacturer, MacRebur and advanced biofuel clean technology company, Bio-Bean.
