80th Anniversary Toy Box Installation for JCB

The Brief

JCB commissioned On Event Production Co. to deliver a landmark outdoor installation celebrating two major milestones the company’s 80th anniversary and Lord Bamford’s 80th birthday. The concept centred on presenting a full size JCB 3CX Sitemaster Pro backhoe loader as if it were a children’s toy, housed inside an oversized replica cardboard toy box positioned lakeside at JCB headquarters.

Working from the creative direction set by JCB Designworks, the brief challenged us to translate a retail scale product into a 1:1 architectural installation. The structure needed to be visually striking, faithful to the toy packaging design, structurally robust and suitable for long term outdoor display through the winter months while remaining highly visible to staff, visitors and passing public.

Objectives

  • Translate JCB’s creative concept into a full scale physical installation

  • Create a structurally sound solution capable of supporting a 6 to 8 tonne machine

  • Deliver a weather resistant installation suitable for prolonged outdoor use

  • Accurately replicate the visual language of JCB’s retail toy packaging

  • Ensure strong visibility from surrounding footpaths, roads and the wider site

  • Support marketing, PR and social content activity around the anniversary

  • Complete delivery ahead of the official launch date

What we did

Structural Platform and Engineering:

We designed and delivered a reinforced modular steel base engineered to safely distribute the full weight of the machine, providing a stable foundation for both the installation and long term outdoor placement.

Bespoke Toy Box Fabrication:

A custom aluminium tension frame system was built to create the full scale toy box form, wrapped in seamless high fidelity printed PVC graphics that accurately reproduced the retail packaging design at 1:1 scale.

Clear Window Feature:

A continuous tensioned PVC window was engineered to span the full front elevation and roofline, delivering maximum visibility of the machine while maintaining a clean finish with no visible joins.

Lighting and Environmental Control:

Integrated internal and external LED lighting ensured strong day and night presence, supported by ventilation, drainage and dehumidification solutions designed to manage condensation and weather exposure beside the lake.

On Site Build and Installation:

Our team delivered a multi day on site build including rigging, assembly, detailing and commissioning, ensuring the installation was completed safely, efficiently and ready for public reveal ahead of launch.
